Mutua Madrid Open Prize Money
2024 Breakdown & Historicals
Staged at La Caja Mágica, or the Manzanares Park Tennis Center, the Mutua Madrid Open is a combined ATP Masters and WTA 1000 series event held on clay courts annually in Spain.
Relative to many other tournaments on the tennis calendar, the Madrid Open is relatively new, opening its doors in 2002, adding a women’s event in 2009, and settling in its current venue.
For the second year, the ATP and WTA tournaments will feature an increased draw size to 96, and the tournament length will be extended from 8 to 12 days to accommodate the extra players.
The ATP and WTA receive equal prize money at the Madrid Open, which reaches an all-time high of €15,754,040 in 2024, or €7,877,020 for men and women. These sums translate to $8,499,541 or £6,738,397, a 2% increase compared to last year.
The singles champions will take home an impressive €892,428, while the runner-up will walk away with a check for €474,609, which has decreased by 19% and 18%, respectively, for each player.
In doubles, the winning pair will split €362,749 compared to the runner-ups €192,067, equating to a -5% decrease for both compared to last year.
In the remainder of this guide, I provide a complete breakdown of the Mutua Madrid Open’s prize money and historical data for reference.
2024 Full Breakdown
At a high level, tournament organizers distribute roughly 80% of prize money at the Madrid Open for men and women to singles, while the doubles events receive the remaining funds, approximately 20%.
Beyond discipline, prize money breaks down further by round, where players earn more as they progress through the tournament. For example, this year’s winner will make more than 67 times a player who exits in the first round, which is a substantial gap.
The following tables break down prize money by round since 2008 for men and 2014 for women. You can scroll left to right to view the entire data set. For comparison, I’ve converted US dollars to Euros and Sterling pounds, which I calculate using the prior year’s exchange rate on the day of the final for a close approximation of value.

Prize Money by Year
Prize money at the Madrid Open changes yearly. Although it often increases, there are years when it decreases due to various factors influencing the event’s revenue.
Generally, the most crucial factors affecting revenue are ticket sales, sponsorships, merchandise, and concessions, so if the tournament underperforms in a given year, prize money will often decrease.
For example, in 2020, tournament officials canceled the event, resulting in significantly lower prize money the following year in 2021.
Despite some down years, the prize money has increased substantially for men and women at the Madrid Open, more than doubling since 2009 for the ATP and WTA. For full context, the following table outlines the total yearly prize money at the event starting in 2008.
