One of two ATP and WTA tournaments hosted in Australia leading up to the year’s first major, the Brisbane International takes place annually in Brisbane, Queensland, on the picturesque Gold Coast of Australia.
Founded in 2009, the tournament has enjoyed a 22-year history. To date, Lleyton Hewitt is the only Australian to have won the singles event, which he accomplished in 2015 by defeating Roger Federer in three sets.
As a minor outdoor tournament played on hard courts, it doesn’t boast the most impressive purse. However, the event’s prize money hit an all-time high of $730,000 for the men and a bit of a drop at $1,520,600 for the women, equating to 10% and -12% changes, respectively, since the last time the tournament ran.
On the men’s side, the tournament’s singles champion will pocket $96,985, and the runner-up will claim a check for $56,580, a 1.7% bump for the winner and a 1.6% increase for his opponent.
The champ will take home $192,475 on the lady’s side, while the runner-up will earn $120,735. These figures are reductions over the tournament’s prior run as organizers focused more of the earnings on the earlier rounds.

Singles is the Brisbane International’s main event. The ATP features a 32-player draw compared to the 24 teams for doubles, while the WTA has a 64-player singles and 32 teams for doubles.
As a result, organizers distribute prize money accordingly, with roughly 80% of the purse supporting singles and the remaining 20% going to doubles.
